This moderately big amphibious ship decided to join sun-tanning vacationers on a Baltic sea beach near Kaliningrad, Russia, on Sunday, August 18. People were somewhat startled as there had been no advance warning announcing the ship's landing attempt.

German Spiegel online presumably hurried to post a stub about the whole ordeal but didn't catch that this was no regular boat but a Zubr -class (~Bison) air-cursion landing craft ... their added voice-over'd clip called it an accident and made sound like an actual crash. The stub's gone now that I wanted to link it.

Russian authorities have so far confirmed the incident, although there's no word yet on why the f*ck the ship hit a beach full of people without any precautions or warnings.

I saw this on NBC this morning. The Russians issued a statement saying that this is normal and this craft lands there pretty often. They did not call it an "incident" and even went so far as to say that perhaps the people shouldn't have been there.

I can believe that they were not supposed to hang around there, seeing that rules and restrictions seem to be regarded as more of a suggestion by some people. Still ... there's little chance that any of them is Jackie Chan, so they could have been in for a bit of trouble. Hey, they could have honked .

I don't think that's a different angle, I think it's just the same video mirrored. Look at the numbers on the ship, and look at the crowd—same beach toys and umbreallas.

Russia is just doing crazy shit to troll the US right now. Well I say "right now" but I really mean always and it is really entertaining imo. The kind of shit that goes down there somehow warms the cockles of my overly protected, overly politicized American heart. Sometimes I just wish fro some CRAZY like this to happen here. I think I know what you mean ... they do the wildest shit and usually get away with it with only minor scratches, whereas in the U.S., people do messed up and/or borderline-dumb shit that goes a long way to make you lose faith in humanity.
